In 1892 a man called Daniel Swarovski invented an automatic crystal cutting machine and then started a new company in Bohemia, Austria. Many of his crystals were used in chandeliers, in beads, jewellery and in accessories, he also put them on fashionable clothing such as shoes, handbags and dresses.
